Sony, one of the major leading laptop manufacturers in the modern electronic market, is planning to enter the league of very few companies which offers laptops with the capability of displaying 3D games and video at 1080p resolution. Sony plans to launch the laptop in the market by next year, so the potential consumers who plan to buy this laptop have to wait a little longer.

At the IFA electronics show, at Berlin on Wednesday, Sony unveiled the prototypes of an impending Vaio laptop which will be having a “3D” button and active-shutter glasses to separate what the left and right eyes see.

In a press conference advertising Sony’s vow to 3D technology, Sony’s Chief Executive, Mr. Howard Stringer told that the Vaios having “3D” buttons will be debuting next spring. Sony also introduced some other 3D products and contents at the IFA electronics show.

The samples displayed at the IFA electronics show makes use of “frame-sequential” technology, which quickly cycles the complete full screen amid the right-eye and left-eye views by blank screens positioned in between the “crosstalk” which can reduce the 3D picture quality.

This means that the laptop should be able to display video at 240 frames per second so as to match the 3D rate of sixty frames per second. Sony didn’t disclosed which graphics chip the system will be using. Sony also made it very clear that the final product entering the market could very well differ from the prototypes that are being displayed here.

Sony also proclaimed at the electronics show that some of the existing PlayStation 3 and Blu-ray players will also be retrofitted with some new firmware, which will make them 3D-capable. Some of the 3D game titles that were shown at the show there was the Sly Trilogy, Tumble, Virtual Tennis 4, Mortal Kombat, Super Stardust HD, Killzone 3, Motor Storm Apocalypse, MLB baseball and The Fight.

If you still are not satisfied with the announcement made by Sony, then here is something bigger for you. For the people who want real big screen experience, Sony also announced a 3D video projector, the Sony WV-90. This projector will be using the same active-shutter system, which is being used as Sony’s Bravia TVs, which means that the required glasses will work all across the line.
